Mantsho

This play was performed during the PACOFS (Performing Arts Centre of the Free State) Incubator Festival. Mantsho was then awarded with title of the Best Play for the Incubator Festival 2016.

Synopsis:

Mantsho: Greed, ignorance and witchcraft are the main highlights of the play. Mantsho is a story of the King of the Bakoena Clan who made a mistake by not following certain traditional Basotho rituals after his wife died. He later falls in the hands of the serpent’s pawn, Mantsho, whom he marries while in the process of mourning his late wife. Mantsho’s and her wizardry’s doings managed to end the King’s life and she ended up ruling the whole Bakoena clan, leaving them in turmoil. The King’s spirit never laid in peace, he retaliated in a spiritual form realm and cursed Mantsho, forced her to leave his clan in harmony. She refused to leave and time went by, the lightening stroke her and she died. Did life get any better for the Bakoena clan after the death or got worse?
